Friday Favorite: Garden Lites Souffles

When I’m “good” and have a tossed salad for lunch, I sometimes need a little extra “something” on the side.

And I found a new product that fits the bill perfectly… Garden Lites Frozen Souffles. Gluten, lactose and nut free these soufflés are  pockets of scrumptious veggies puffed to perfection.

Packed with tons of vegetables, egg whites and just the right amount of spices, these soufflés have only all natural ingredients and microwave in just minutes. They come in 6 flavors (Broccoli, Roasted Vegetable, Zucchini, Spinach, Cauliflower and Butternut Squash).

Best yet… most of the Garden Lites soufflés are only 140 calories and 15 grams of fat (the Butternut Squash soufflé is the only one that has 180 calories and 0 grams of fat).

My favorite is the gluten-free Roasted Vegetable Souffle; and complemented with a tossed salad the combo is like a garden party right on my lunch table.

And with only 2 Weight Watchers point per serving, my new motto is “A soufflé a day, and the weight won’t stay”!

All these healthy, delicious, low-calorie and low-fat reasons are why this week’s Friday Favorite goes to Garden Lites Souffles. Enjoy!

Are they truly Dairy free or just lactose? I couldn’t find the ingredients on the site. They look DELICIOUS though!

  10. Cyndi Says:

Hi There! As a means of introduction, I am a 40-something year old and have been following the GF lifestyle out of necessity for a number of years now. I love to cook and am writing a cookbook as a gift for my nearly-grown children and extended family many of whom are GF and all of whom I cook for quite often =) I was delighted to see the Garden Lites products in the freezer section of our local Whole Foods and thought it would be nice to have something in the freezer and on hand for a quick option on busy days. The Zucchini Soufflé quickly gained my attention and a place in my grocery cart. I don’t own a microwave [by choice–personal conviction] and so opted to heat in the oven per the package instructions. To my great disappointment, I found the soufflé inedible =( Even though zucchini is the first ingredient listed, this product contained very very little zucchini–NOTHING at all like the photo that appears on the front of the package. Most of the soufflé was bread/filler-like, a bit too sweet, under-seasoned, and the few bites I ate left my mouth with an odd and indistinguishable aftertaste. I considered returning it to Whole Foods knowing they support their customers in this way, but then decided to chalk it up to an experience I will not repeat. Thank you for allowing me to share my experience. Warm regards, Cyndi

    Cyndi-
Thanks for your comments. I am so surprised that you had the experience that you did with the Garden Lites. I never had any problem with the quality of the products and I’ve been a fan for years. Everyone else I know that tries them loves them too. I am, however, cooking the product in a microwave so maybe that makes a difference. I have forwarded your email to the folks over at Garden Lite too. I know they want ALL their customers to be happy.

    Hi Cyndi,

Kathleen was nice enough to let me know about your recent comment and I wanted to address your concerns. Each Zucchini Souffle we make has two full servings of veggies inside, and I can understand how you’d feel it didn’t if yours did not have much visible green peel. We mix most of the zucchini right into the batter, so it won’t necessarily show up. I’d love to send you some coupons to give us another try! We have many souffle flavors and each one has a unique taste. If interested, please reply to this post and I will contact you directly to get the coupons right out to you. Thank you for sharing about your experience, we appreciate all consumer feedback!

    All the best, Julie

Several Garden Lites Souffles have safe and healthy ingredients. Sadly, a few contain “Natural flavors” and “Autolyzed yeast”. These are pseudonyms for MSG.
I am one of many who is sensitive to MSG and more than 30 additives with product names intended to hide sources of MSG. I wish Garden Lites would replace ‘flavor enhancers’ with good old fashioned spices. I, for one would be glad to pay a little more for true healthy ingredients.
(And yes, so-called “natural flavors” without an actual description of it’s source is really MSG.)
I shall continue to buy and enjoy the safe and healthy Garden Lites Souffles.

    Sincerely, Jan
