Win-It-Wednesday: “Juice: Recipes for Juicing, Cleansing & Living Well” Cook Book

One morning last week a college student that works with me came to work with a tall glass full of an icy, frothy baby-blue drink. It looked delicious. Between sips he explained that this “drink” was his breakfast and he had, literally, whipped it up that morning. Packed with fresh blueberries, coconut water, chia seeds and pineapple, the drink, he explained, was not only gluten-free, but full of nutrients, and was a refreshing & convenient breakfast on the run. Intrigued, I set out to find out more information about “juicing” – the practice of extracting juice from fruits and vegetables.

My search to discover  juicing basics, the do’s & don’ts, and fantastic recipes lead me to the new cookbook, “Juice: Recipes for Juicing, Cleansing & Living Well” by Carly de Castro, Hedi Gores and Hayden Slater – the three founders of Pressed Juicery – one of America’s most successful emerging juice companies with nearly 20 locations throughout California (they also offer nationwide shipping.)

Along with all the juicing how-to’s and recipes, this book made me realize the health benefits of fresh juice is astonishing and an important part of a fit & healthy lifestyle. Fresh juice is a great energy booster, replenishes nutrients in your body and is great for youthful and glowing skin.

I was also shocked at how easy juicing can be… and fun too! Following & making the recipes are quick and easy. In no-time you’ll be whipping up your very own breakfast, snacks, smoothies and more. Two of my favorite recipes are the Coconut Mint Chip Smoothie (this tastes just like Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream) and the sweet Pineapple, Beet, Pear, Ginger blended juice.

I also love the chapter on Elizers and Flavored Waters (you must try the Infused Blackberry Sage Water – YUM!). To make things simple I use my water pitcher infuser (I LOVE THIS! And they are only $19.90 on Amazon.com) and PRESTO I am drinking my daily allowance of water with no problem at all! (Or check out the singe serve infusion water bottles!)

All of these healthy and delicious reasons are why I am so excited that “Juice: Recipes for Juicing, Cleansing & Living Well” Cook Book is the prize sponsor of this Win-It-Wednesday on BeFreeForme.com

  23. Karen Says:

The biggest thing I can do to stay healthy is to organize things so I’m ready for the next day ahead. I’m not good in the morning, so if I wake up and have to figure out what to wear, what to eat, where things are……..it’s going to slow me down, make me late, and stress me out. I have clothing (and jewelry if wearing any) ready and laid out, meds laid out, food prepped and ready to warm up or eat on the go, the night before I get into bed. Some weeks, like this one, I have so many really long days with meetings into the late evening that I spent Sunday prepping food for the week. I pack breakfast, lunch, and dinner most days so if it’s all prepped and ready, all I have to do is grab a container with each and head out to work. I usually prep two to three items for each meal so I’m not eating the same thing every day, but yes, some weeks I have the same thing for a given meal all week. I don’t mind that and it lets me relax. Because the food is prepped and ready, it makes my evenings less hectic as well since I don’t have to cook for the next day.

  24. Sharon Says:

I make a smoothie with homemade kefir every morning and rink kombucha throughout the day. The book sounds great!

  30. Christina Says:

Woo Hoo! Thanks for another chance to win. Another way I stay healthy is to try to get 7 hours of sleep each night. It energizes me for long busy days.

  31. Dana Says:

A juicing book would be very helpful for myslef and my family. I have been trying to hype myself up for a 21 days cleanse. I have done this before and makes me feel so much stronger with ky mind and body. It is a great way to clear the toxins put of my system , plus my kind runs clearer and I loss the water that my body loves to hold onto. I have a great walking routine of almost 3 miles that I need to get back into my routine along with using my rebounder at least 15 minutes every day to help keep that water retention away. It would be great to have a juicing book that would be show to guide me on this journey that I need to make into a daily norm for my life and the life of my family.

    Thank you,
    Dana

  32. Denise C Says:

I walk my dogs twice day. Even though some days I may not feel like it I know they need the walk and that gets me moving.
