Win-It-Wednesday: Green Mountain Gringo Salsa and Tortilla Strips

I love my snacks! That’s why we decided to continue on with the snacking theme of our WIN-It-Wednesday’s and feature another one of my favorite snack options… Green Mountain Gringo Salsa and Strips.

I have been a fan of Green Mountain Gringo products for about 15 years now… years before I was diagnosed with celiac disease, and started on the gluten-free diet. I love Green Mountain Gringo because of the fresh-homemade taste and ingredients that are used in all of their products. Green Mountain Gringo products are also all natural, gluten free, cholesterol free, and contain no GMO’s.

When you dive into a jar of Green Mountain Salsa you submerge with fresh, chunks of vegetables – tomatoes, peppers, onions, and chilies. The ingredient list on this salsa reads like a handwritten shopping list: Ripe Tomatoes, Fresh Onions, Fresh Tomatillos, Fresh Jalapeño Peppers, Fresh Pasilla Peppers, Apple Cider Vinegar, Fresh Cilantro, Fresh Parsley, Fresh Garlic, Sea Salt, Spices.

Nothing fake. Nothing artificial. Nothing that makes you scared to eat the whole jar in one sitting!

The salsa comes in the traditional Mild, Medium, and Hot; as well as, Roasted Chili  and Roasted Garlic .

And the Green Mountain Tortilla Strips… they are the perfect vehicle of crunch to transport this fabulous salsa. The Green Mountain Gringo website illustrates these strips as, “…A solid rectangle of pure leverage makes it stable enough for the most aggressive of dippers. Either end features an ergonomic handle allowing even the ”power dipper” an enjoyable experience. Sturdy and dependable, they won’t break short of your expectations.”

My favorite is the Original strip which is made from 100% masa harina corn flour, cooked in all natural canola oil and topped with a pinch of salt. Dipping perfection! The strips also come in Blue Corn and White Corn. Take your pick of the three… they’re all delicious.

Pure and natural snacking heaven is why I am so very excited that Green Mountain Gringo Salas and Tortilla Strips are this week’s BeFreeForMe’s WIN-It-Wednesday sponsor. SIX (Yes 6!) Lucky BeFreeForMe members will win a sample pack containing a jar of each of the Mild, Medium and Hot Salsas, two (2) full size packages of the Original Tortilla Strips, and a bunch of fun Green Mountain Gringo giveaways like t-shirts, magnets and chip clips.

NOTE: This is a two-week long promotion. Three winners will be picked each week, so make sure you enter once each week! All entries must be received by Tuesday, June 1st for the first week’s drawing and all entries must be received by Tuesday, June 8th for the second week’s drawing.

  1. Jennifer C Says:

Chips and salsa – my favorite. I’m a medium salsa fan, but every once in awhile I’m in the mood for some of the hot stuff. I love to mix chicken broth and salsa, cover chicken with it, and bake it in the oven. The salsa chicken makes great tacos, salad topping, wrap filling, etc.

  2. Lynnae Says:

I LOVE Green Mountain Gringo, especially their Roasted Garlic salsa (medium)! I mix it with eggs for a tasty breakfast and serve with avocado strips or guacamole. Yum yum yum!

  3. Cindy Says:

I am a fan of mild salsa and would love to try this brand. I love salsa mixed with cottage cheese. I know it sounds strange but you have to try it! It gives you a little protein burst – and eat it with chips. It’s a great afternoon snack.

  4. Faith Pavkovich Says:

I like mine mild… I like to stir a little salsa into pasta with velveeta cheese for a quick lunch. Hmmm… that could be good scooped up on a chip instead of on a spoon.

  5. Kyle Thornton Says:

I love chips and salsa, medium for me, but my husband loves it hot! I like to mix salsa in my tamale pie recipe, yum!

  6. Cindy Says:

I love the mild. I use it as a base for my tortilla soup.

  7. Martha Russell Says:

Love both the Green Mountain Gringo Chips and Salsa.

I use the mild salsa in many ways- on baked potatoes, making enchiladas, on omelettes,on baked chicken etc.

I use the chips, crumbled up, in soups to replace soup crackers.

  8. Lisa Durene Says:

I usually am a medium salsa person but on occasion will go for the hot. I think the chips would be great in taco hotdish.

  9. Diane . Says:

I first tried these chips and salsa when I was out at the Green Mountain hiking spa in St. George, Utah. I was actually drawn to the dining room from the incredible smell of heated chips wafting through the air. Once I dipped my first heated chip into the salsa, it was like the skies had opened and I heard the angels sing. They were the most delicious food I had ever tasted. I’m not a junk food eater and I never eat chips, but when I read the ingredients, which were all natural and very healthy, I never felt any pangs of guilt and allowed myself to savor the moment and really enjoy the fllavor. Now, they are my favorite snack food and can’t go more than a day or two without them. I love spicy food but my favorite salsa flavor is the mild because it allows me to enjoy the flavor of both the chips and the salsa, without one overpowering the other. Thanks for this giveaway.

  10. Phyllis Says:

I am a mild type. Salsa would be good served on top of chicken that had a marinade with a lime base.

  11. Angel Says:

I love HOT salsa. Chips and salsa are great by themseves, but also enjoy making the combo into taco salads.

  12. Elizabeth Says:

Medium salsa. I top spinach dip with fresh salsa, yummy combo!

  13. Julie Says:

I like to mix mild and medium together to make a slightly milder medium … I’d love to try the garlic flavor though … I’m a huge garlic fan!
I like to mix salsa and chili & eat it with tortilla chips for a nice crunch!

  14. Crystal Says:

I am a mild salsa person. I do not like it when salsa that is “mild” but still has a bite. My family loves the Green Mountain chips and salsa!!! I think they would be great tp crumble the chips in a mexican cassarole like a tamale pie and a perfect crunch.

  15. Lori Says:

Is there anything better than chips & salsa…..of course….chips, salsa, and a Margarita!!!! Especially on a nice summer day!
I perfer the mild flavor but will sometimes dip into the medium. Salsa with quinoa, black beans, corn…perfect side dish or lunch.
Can’t wait to try the Green Mountain Chips & Salsa!!!

  16. Sally Says:

We love chips and salsa; I typically enjoy medium heat and other family members reach for the mild. A jar of salsa, some lean protein and a few hours in a slow cooker make an easy, tasty dinner that smells heavenly!

  17. Cynthia Says:

I love hot salsa. I use a dollop of salsa on salads with a small amount of dressing for a really spicy kick and a different taste. I also use salsa on my tortilla wrap sandwiches. I buy brown rice tortillas and top with refried beans, lettuce, tomatoes, green onion, goat cheese or other cheese and salsa. The salsa makes the meal.

  18. Lucy Says:

I like hot, but my tummy tells me to stop at medium (lol). I love to use tortilla chips as crackers – when I feel creative I can use them in casserole dish along with the salsa- yum!

  19. Katie Says:

This won’t be as eloquent as Diane’s entry, but I’ll give this a shot…..might just be a winner one of these days! My husband and I have been big fans of Green Mountain Gringo salsa since we lived in Colorado many years ago. It is the freshest tasting jarred salsa out there. The cilantro makes it. We use it on baked potatoes, on quesadillas, in mexican dips and by itself with tortilla chips. We use crushed tortilla chips or tortilla strips over salads and mexican dips. Our 6 year old daughters love all of the above as well.

  20. jen fenderson Says:

I’m a medium. I like a little spice, but not so much that makes it difficult to taste what you’re using the salsa for. Use can use salsa on eggs, in omelettes, on chicken (put chicken and salsa in a crockpot and cook on low for about 6 hours) top with cheese, on steak, in your tacos, burritos and tortilla chips make a fantastic topping for salads esp, salads with beans and mexican cheese blend.

  21. Marina Says:

Medium. Hot sets me on fire. Crushed tortillas are great on salads instead of croutons. Salsa is more than a chip dip for us; we use it as a condiment on most of our Mexican and Spanish dishes.

  22. Michie Page Says:

Mild for me please, I am a wimp and proud of it. I like to make taco potatoes. I put cheese, a little beans if I have them, soy sour cream and salsa in a baked potato. To add a little crunch, I sprinkle a couple of tortilla chips on top.

  23. Paula Says:

Medium or hot…only if there’s a lot of good crisp vegetable flavor.

  24. Joan Terry Says:

I use medium salsa when I make Mexican style chicken soup. it is so tasty and really adds that special punch to the soup recipe. When I serve the soup, I also serve more salsa and smashed up tortilla chips on the side for added seasoning. It is delicious!

  25. torie Says:

I’m a mild salsa girl. I put it in my cottage cheese or have used it in place of salad dressing on my salad. I’ve also used it as a dip for raw veggies. I have used crushed tortilla chips as a breading for a gluten free fried chicken.

  26. Deb VP Says:

I love medium and my husband loves anything hot enough to melt your face off. He’s fantastic in that he is now going gluten free with me (minus the beer that he brews himself)…we just started two weeks ago (diagnosed 3 May). Thank goodness for gluten free snacks!

  27. sarahp Says:

I l-o-v-e salsa and chips. I use salsa as a type of marinade/sauce for baked chicken. Add some ckicken, cooked rice, bell pepper, onions, and corn and you’ve got a cassarole. You can add flavor by adding chili powder, ground red pepper, and cumin. Make sure they are GF though…. : )

  28. Eileen Says:

I use the medium salsa. I use it in chili and on baked potatoes.

  29. Monica Gonzalez Says:

I love chips and salsa. I’m a medium salsa person. I love to use tortilla strips on my tortilla soup.

  30. robin gamache Says:

TO BE HONEST I NEVER HEARD OF THIS BRAND. IF I COULD FIND IT AROUND HERE I DEFINITLY WOULD GO FOR MILD BUT MY 3 YEAR OLD SON AND HUSBAND WOULD LOVE THE CHIPS WITH HOT SALSA.

  31. Sable S Says:

I like mild or medium salsa. Another way you can use salsa is in spaghetti or chili.

  32. Toby Says:

Medium…and tortilla strips would be great broken up over tomato soup….NUMMY!! 😀

  33. jody tarrant Says:

I am a huge fan of salsa and chips….medium,,,,,is my style.I use to be mild but worked my way upon the flavor .maybe I willbe hot soon???…I like to mix salsa with potato salads….for an extra boost of spice and flavor…a good change from the ordinary potato salad….thanks for the chance to win….

  34. Lindy Says:

I love chips and salsa–mild is good for me. Roasted garlic is my favourite.

  35. carrie Says:

Definitely hot. Mix it into some velveta and crumbled sausage for a chips and dip meal night.

  36. Randy Says:

I am a mild person. I like to put the chips on the bottom then the salsa and top it off with with one of the flavours of shredded cheese and maybe olives, mushrooms, whatever i feel like then heat just enough for the cheese to melt. Would love to try your product!

  37. Nicole Says:

    – love chips and salsa. I am a medium salsa lover, not too spicy but not too mild either.

  38. Tanya Says:

Medium is always the “safe” way to go.

  39. Rosemarie Says:

I like is slightly spicy, so I guess I’m a medium. It’s always a perk when gluten free tastes great too!
I use my chips sometimes to make a Mexican dish called chilaquiles. When I use the Green Mountain chips it comes especially good!

  40. Janet LaRue Says:

I am the gal that is boring and can only handle the mild salsa! My daughter however is the hot type-the hotter the better for her! So we always have to have 2 jars of salsa going! We have never tired or even seen this brand before and would love to win these as a chance to try this product! Chips and Salsa are a staple here in my home! I love to make enchilada pie with both-crush up the chips as a layer, then put beef and homemade enchilada sauce which includes the salsa and refried beans, layer of cheese, and repeat…yummmmmmmm!

  41. Elizabeth Says:

Chips and salsa are my favorite snack. I’m a medium salsa fan but i’m trying to learn to like the hotter stuff. Almost any recipe that i can replace canned tomates with salsa i’ll do it cause it gives added flavor and yumminess to it plus i also like salsa and rice mixed together.:)

  42. Nancy Adam Says:

I usually am a mild salsa person and love it on scrambled eggs, omelettes, chicken, and I have a great slow cooker recipe for pork and salsa. I usually don’t do chips, but these sound healthy and wonderful. I had not thought of using them in soups to replace crackers. Great idea. Thanx for the giveaway.

  43. Gillian Gurish Says:

Hi Kathleen! I hope you remember me – we met at Dawn Smith-Maloney’s Women in Business networking get-together at Stephanie G.’s last week. Your blog is wonderful – I can only hope my blog will be like it when it grows up! Your product reviews are great! I like reviewing the all natural products too; I just feel so much better when I eat them versus the super-processed stuff.

    Oh, and I’m a mild girl. What can I say, I’m a semi-wimp 😉

  44. Cynthia Says:

I love hot salsa. I use it as an addition to green salads. It’s so good. I also use it to add the spicy kick on my brown rice tortilla wraps. My kitchen is complete with medium or hot salsa.

  45. billybob Says:

    es muy bueno . . .

  46. April Says:

I’m definitely a medium salsa person. I love to take a jar of my favorite salsa with chicken breast and a packet of taco seasoning and put it all in my crockpot in the morning. When I get home in the evening I just make some rice and add some sour cream and I’ve got a simple easy meal for dinner.

  47. judy Says:

I can’t get enough of Mom’s mac n’ cheese, with tortilla chips crumbled on top, and medium salsa spooned on top!!

  48. Christina Says:

I’m a mild salsa fan. I like it spicy, but don’t like the heat to outweigh the full flavor of fresh ingredients. One use for tortilla chips that has really helped me in my gf lifestyle is crushing them as a quick substitute for breadcrumbs. Particularly in meatloaf, the corn chip flavor adds a wonderful flavor dimension to my meal.

  49. Nicole Says:

I love chips and salsa – definatly medium!

  50. Kara Says:

We like mild salsa at my house. Torilla chips are a favorite here, too. My favorite use for the salsa is to make GFCFSF chicken enchilladas! As for the chips- well- I love avacados, so I’m afraid they don’t usually make it passed a smashed avacado with lime juice and sea salt. Yum:-) We do use them for nachos and dips and salsa too.

  51. Emily Says:

I LOOVE Medium salsa! I put salsa on EVERYTHING. I dip veggies in it as a snack, I’ll put it in soups, pour it over chicken and bake it, or over nachos. The sky is the limit with delicious salsa!

  52. Lauren Says:

I prefer medium salsa and I like to use it instead of Ketchup on burgers and to use it to make mexican style gf pizza with cheddar cheese and jalepenos. Yum

I like Green Mountain Gringo medium Salsa. I like to put it in my beans and avocados.

  55. Rhonda Says:

I like the mild salsa on top of brown rice, sauteed zucchini, peppers, and sungold tomatoes with some tortilla chips and guacamole on the side.

  56. Gris Says:

Definitely mild, I need to be able to enjoy all my food and with my whole mouth just can’t do it, as a good Mexican I can have salsa for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but my favorite is over tostadas (crisp corn tortilla) with lime and salt, perfect for taking the edge of the crunchy craving. I add some refried beans, cheese(queso fresco), lettuce, tomatoes and top with avocado and maybe table cream, if I want to have it as a meal.

I love hot salsa – the hotter the better!
