DariFree: Love Potion #9 for the Food Allergic & Intolerant

I must say that when I think of powdered milk I conjure up these thoughts of being a toddler, being handed a glass and knowing from the first sip that my Mom had run out of the “real stuff” and was pawning off the white watery mixture as the real McCoy.

I dreaded the stuff.

Because of these flashback memories, I must say that I was weary on trying DariFree’s Non-Dairy Milk Alternative at the Natural Food Expo. However, as an attendee that was searching out the best of the best, I had to be courteous and give the stuff a try. I counted to three and like the song goes, “I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink”.

That’s when it happened…. with a non-milk mustache placed above my colossal smile, I found myself automatically holding out my sample size Dixie cup to the tradeshow booth attendee for a sample of a different flavor.

DariFree had me on the first sip.

Not only is DariFree delicious, it is also nutritious – enriched with vitamins and containing as much calcium as milk. And what it doesn’t have in it is even more impressive… DariFree is free of: Gluten, Casein, Lactose, Fat, Soy, Rice, MSG & Protein. The Original flavor is even free of Cholesterol.

Free of 9 different allergens makes this a “love potion” for any food allergic / intolerant… and what’s not to love about that?

I gave Isaiah a glass of this, this morning…he also was very sceptical as the first milk alternative (almond milk) didn’t go over so well, he was very hesitant as he took that first sip, then he smiled and said this tastes like the old milk! lol

Tierra (my oldest) tried a glass of it last night w/ dinner to see what she thought, she was like ummmm that’s good (and she’s picky!) I’m so glad to have found something he liked, I was a little discouraged when he didn’t like the almond milk.

Thanks for sharing! I have to try this. I too, have not so fond memories of the powdered milk growing up. I would love to add your site to my blogroll at http://www.foodallergymama.com. Thanks again!

Oh that is so great to know. I have read about DairFree but haven’t tried it for the same reasons and hestiations you mentioned. I have a 11 month old DS who is allergic to milk so this may be a good thing when he is older. As for me, I love almond milk and I can tolerate raw cow’s milk (because it still has the lactose in it).
    thanks again!

I have just found your website and am new to this blog. I felt I must share this. I discovered DariFree when dairy became a problem after I was gluten free for almost one year. Now I avoid gluten, dairy and soy and have a much better time with life. I have found that DariFree is great to use anytime powdered milk is called for. I especially like it in Bette Hagman’s dry creamed soup base mixture. The recipe can be found in The Gluten Free Gourmet Cooks Comfort Foods. Great Book for those new to GF cooking. My family commented that I hade made the best cream gravy ever when I made a favorite family meal. Mary Ann

Glad to hear about this product. However, I looked on the vancesfoods.com website and was disappointed to see that DariFree has ZERO protein so it’s not an adequate substitute for milk. Still, I can use it as an ingredient when a meal already contains adequate protein so I’ll watch for it.
